I started Simply Told because of this quote attributed to Jane Addams:
“People did not want to hear simple stories. They wanted to hear great stories, simply told.”
Simply Told helps organizations and individuals realize their full potential by learning more about themselves through introspective workshops.
I’m Brian Holaway.
I’ve spent my whole life noticing what others walk past — the sign that confuses instead of welcomes, the meeting where half the room never speaks, the person who needs someone to say “your story is true, and we start from there.”
I close the empathy gap.
I do it through design, through facilitation, through helping people understand themselves well enough to understand each other. I’ve spent 25 years making other organizations’ stories clear. This is the work I was always doing underneath all of it.
I cultivate space to imagine & create human-centered ideas that change lives.
I thrive on thinking critically and analytically, while understanding all sides to achieve equitable and diverse outcomes.
I’m a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) Certified Facilitator and Certified Enneagram Typing Professional (CETP) through The Narrative Enneagram.
You Are Not Most People
Thoreau said most people live in quiet desperation.
You are not most people.
You are the compassionate explorer, the teammate encourager, and the steadfast partner. You come from a long line of idea cultivators, people uplifters, and playful leaders.
Your role models gained a new perspective by standing on desks, changing the story by training the untrainable, and saving the world by befriending the despised.
You are not most people.
So, how can you accept who you have been and still lead as you are on your way to who you want to be?
Our teams—leaders, partners, groups, and staff—can dream bigger and reach higher. They can live with loud confidence, importance, and respect for each other instead of quiet desperation. They might reach the stars because of it.
So, what path leads to that destination?
It’s the path of challenging work and responsibility, ideas and renewal, and, believe it or not – fun. It’s the path of sharing lives, championing each other’s work, and realizing we can build something of value for others.
Together, we can develop human-centered businesses and create human-centered ideas that change lives.
Because we are not most people.
