This interview isn’t a test.

It’s a conversation designed to help you understand the motivations behind how you move through the world, so you can live them with more intention.

The Enneagram is a guide to celebrating and appreciating our differences. That's how we close the empathy gap.

We each interact with the world in unique ways.

The Enneagram uses nine types to assist in comprehending our motivations behind the precious stories of how we interact with people and circumstances.

Understanding these motivations not only brings self-discovery, but keeps those discoveries as guiding lights for developing empathy and compassion for ourselves and others.

For Those Wanting To

  • You’re asked a series of questions. This takes about 60–70 minutes before we move to debrief and next steps.
  • At the end of the interview, you are presented with two or three Enneagram types that were most noticeable during the interview. We’ll talk together about those results.
  • You are not told your type – that’s up to you! This interview is a guide to help you discern.
  • If you have an idea of your enneagram type, do not reveal it until the end of the interview. We start with a clean slate.
  • As a follow-up to the interview, you will receive a summary of the results, along with simple next steps.
  • If time allows we may briefly cover wings, resource types, and subtypes. However, our primary goal is guiding you in discovering your type. Brian is also happy to offer further coaching and teaching if that is something you would like to pursue with additional sessions.
  • A small, versatile, curated set of LEGO® bricks is provided. Your mailing address is requested at booking for shipping.
  • The main focus is still your Enneagram type. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® allows for a more experiential process.
  • It bypasses your filter. Many Enneagram tests rely on you describing your behavior accurately. But self-assessment can be difficult – we may answer how we think we should, not how we actually are. Plus, we’re examining your motivations, not your behavior. When you build with LEGO® bricks, something different happens. Your hands engage while you think, accessing truths your words might edit or justify away.
  • It connects head, heart, and hands. The Enneagram operates across three centers. Building while reflecting activates all three. This “thinkering” – thinking through your hands – reveals motivations that pure conversation could miss.
  • There’s no wrong answer. You’re not trying to build the “right” house or the “correct” representation or what you’re prompted to build. Whatever you create becomes the starting point for dialogue. This removes performance pressure and creates space for authentic discovery. Plus it can be fun!

Hi, I’m Brian Holaway, the owner of Simply Told. I conduct all interviews.

I’ve spent my whole life noticing what others walk past — the meeting where half the room never speaks, the person who needs someone to say “your story is true, and we start from there.”

I do it through design, through facilitation, through helping people understand themselves well enough to understand each other.

That’s why I close the empathy gap.

I’ve spent 25 years making other organizations’ stories clear. That work continues. And Simply Told is where it gets personal — helping people understand themselves well enough to understand each other.

Great question!

An online test can be helpful, but it is ill-equipped to determine the motivations behind how you interact with the world. Tests often focus on behavior.

During an interview, a trained Enneagram typing professional asks relevant questions and listens for motivations, rather than behaviors.

This method not only brings clarity but also serves as a guiding light for developing empathy and compassion for ourselves and others.

This interview is for one person age 18 or older.

Parents, if you’re interested in discussing the enneagram as it relates to your child, schedule a free Discovery Call to learn about options.
